Dynasty Rankings - Forwards February 2022

Now that we've entered the second half of the season and our fantasy teams are making a stretch run towards the playoffs its time to reevaluate some of the things we thought heading into the season. We've spent a lot of time over the last weeks touching on our waiver wire pick ups, talking about how rookies are performing, and even a few stock watches, but haven't updated the rankings for position groups in a while. This week we'll take a look at the forward group, and what to make of what's going on here. We've seen the resurgence of a few veterans (Pavelski and Giroux), the breakout of a few prospects (Larkin, namely), and some struggles this season, but how have they impacted the rankings in keeper and dynasty leagues?

Unquestionably, the top two forwards on the list are the pair from Edmonton who continue to be a dynamic force across all formats. Their age and scoring acumen set them apart from everyone else, and it's hard to see what will stop them at this point. Kirill "The Thrill" has been an absolute force for the Minnesota Wild this season, and in 15 fewer games this season has already eclipsed the point per game mark he set as a rookie. He's making everyone around him better too as we're seeing career seasons out of Ryan Hartman and Mats Zuccarello as well. The long awaited return of Nikita Kucherov has been temporarily put on hold, but he still showed he's among the best in the game with 17 points in 11 games before being scratched for the last couple of games. The trio of young Avs forwards MacKinnon, Rantanen, and Landeskog still remain fixtures atop the top 100 list, as they keep scoring at prolific rates with injuries up and down the lineup. Even at age 31, Nazem Kadri is in the list with his best scoring season to date - everyone seems to look good in an Avalanche sweater these days. Jason Robertson cracks the top 20 halfway through his second full season - he's taken his play to another level this season and bringing Roope Hintz and Joe Pavelski along for the ride. What will it take to slow Crosby and Ovechkin down? Seems like the only thing these days has been the injury bug, but these players are must starts any time they take the ice.

Elsewhere outside the top 25, Jordan Kyrou is having a breakout season and forced his way up the list this year. He's finally been rewarded with first unit power play time and making the most of it. Evgeny Kuznetsov has shown signs of what we saw earlier in his career with a point per game pace, and could set career highs in goals and points if he can keep up this pace. Jack Eichel seems to be primed for a return - it will be fun to watch where he slots into the Golden Knights' lineup for the first time since the Sabres traded him earlier this year. What has happened to Elias Pettersson? Following an injury that ended his season last year, he just hasn't looked right. There's still time for him to turn it around - he's only 23 - but it's hard to rank him any higher until he shows the scoring touch he showed at a younger age. Since holding out at the beginning of the season, Brady Tkachuk has shown Ottawa why he's worth the money - he's scoring at the highest rate of his career while still hitting and shooting 4 times per game. With their outstanding rookie campaigns, Trevor Zegras and Lucas Raymond appear to be locked into a duel for this year's Calder Trophy.
