Dynasty Rankings: QBs - December 2021

Updated: Dec 9, 2021

They fantasy football playoff push is upon us, and with two weeks left in the season it's time to see whether you'll be in the hunt for bragging rights, or rebuilding for next season. For the first time in several seasons, we're failing to see any of the elite QBs truly standout for long stretches of play. We've also seen, with the exception of Mac Jones, any rookie take a meaningful step forward this season. While there's still plenty of football left this season, this has largely left our rankings relatively static compared to last month. Let's dive into this month's first set of rankings.

It's been a very up and down season, particularly in the last few weeks. Patrick Mahomes appeared to struggle through the first couple of weeks. During that same stretch we saw injuries to Lamar Jackson and Kyler Murray, and inconsistent play from Justin Herbert and Josh Allen. Joe Burrow continues to be solid for the Bengals, but hasn't done enough yet to distinguish himself enough to be part of that upper tier of QBs. Matt Stafford looked excellent to start the season, jumping him two spots in our rankings, while Trevor Lawrence's lack of solid QB play slides him down. Justin Fields showed what makes him exciting before the Bears' bye week, spurring him up our rankings as well. Good stretches of football from Tua, Kirk Cousins, and Carson Wentz have also seen their stocks go up over the last month, while Trey Lance struggled in his most recent start before getting hurt and losing the starting job. Elsewhere, Mac Jones and Derek Carr have fallen down in the rankings, but more as a product of the more consistent play from the guys ahead of him. Taysom Hill and Teddy Bridgewater break into the rankings, while Matt Ryan and Jameis Winston have fallen out. -Tessmonster

One thing that sticks out to me is how categorized this position seems to be. You have the top 9 or so that you're OK being your #1 guy, then it's a lot of the high upside players like Fields, Tua, and Lance. Brady and the veterans follow with the bust-potential rookies, and the QBs that never truly broke out. Looking at the overall list can really give someone a great blueprint for how they want to build out their teams. It is a pretty even position as there are only a few players that are ranked a little differently. I mean Tom Brady can't do it forever right? Who am I kidding of course he can. - Nation

Looks like we're fairly consistent in our rankings, but it was interesting to see our differences of opinion on Trevor Lawrence. I still see the upside there, but he's done little to prove that he belongs above some of the other names in the top 10 for me. Also fun to see our flip-flop on Hurts and Fields - two similarly styled QBs. I think with Hurts' lack of consistent play, there's an outside chance that Philly dabbles in the draft early, despite his age. I'd love to see what Fields does when given the keys to a non-Matt Nagy offense. The other big difference I see, other than you retaining Darnold and Love, is Tom Brady. Despite his age, he still offers solid QB play, and seems to be truly ageless. -Tessmosnter
