Waiver Wire - Week 9

With the 2021 season shaping up to be a meat grinder in the way of injuries, it's been tough for some teams to make their way through. Week 8 saw another top fantasy asset go down for the year with Derrick Henry's injury. Here are some top options for you to get through to the next week, and beyond.

Adrian Peterson (RB-TEN) - 1% Rostered

With Henry's week 8 injury, the entire Titans' offense will be thrown into flux. We've seen the passing game take a step forward in recent weeks with Ryan Tannehill more closely resembling the functional passer we saw last year. Adrian Peterson seems to be the most likely to step into the lead role, and his signing this afternoon is plenty of evidence that they don't think Jeremy McNichols can handle the bulk of Henry's vacated carries. Despite the lack of clarity this early in the week, Peterson represents a potential RB2 option at RB in the current offense if given the role. Jeremy McNichols still figures to factor into some of the rushing down work, and will still be a factor on passing downs.

Boston Scott (RB-PHI) - 12% Rostered

With Miles Sanders on IR, Scott and Jordan Howard ran all over the Lions in week 8, as they both took 12 carries and scored twice. Scott, however, played twice the number of snaps as Howard, and while Kenneth Gainwell outcarried both backs, all of his time came when the game was well in hand. This week, the Eagles get the Chargers who are last in the league against the run based on DVOA making Scott a priority add as well. Jordan Howard is also worth a flier on waivers based on the quality of his opportunities.

Taysom Hill (QB-NO) - 19% Rostered

Hill hasn't played since week 5 due to a concussion, but Jameis Winston exited week 8 with a torn ACL and will miss the rest of the season. Hill has the upside to produce QB1 numbers due to his ability as a rusher, and would be an obvious upgrade over Trevor Siemian. While he isn't a prolific passer, Hill's role in the offense was already present before his concussion, and we should expect the Saints to generate a friendly game plan around Hill's abilities. While it's best to maintain a wait and see approach, Hill could be had at a discount now while we wait for him to produce.

Jaret Patterson (RB-WSH) - 19% Rostered

Although he wasn't present on the injury report, Antonio Gibson continues to be severely limited by his shin injury, and with the team's struggles, it seems like an inevitability that he'll be shut down at some point this season, despite the team going into their bye week. Gibson only played 32% of the snaps for Washington this week, and Patterson will get the rushing work if Gibson misses time. McKissic will continue to handle the passing down work in either event, but Patterson can be had for a cheap stash if he's not already rostered in your dynasty league.

Jamison Crowder (WR-NYJ) - 19% Rostered

Without Corey Davis and Zack Wilson, the Jets were able to rally and upset the Cincinnati Bengals this week on the shoulders of Mike White. With the Jets playing on Thursday, it's entirely possible that Corey Davis misses another game, allowing Crowder and Elijah Moore to step forward again this week. Crowder was targeted 9 times in week 8, catching 8 passes for 84 yards. While it remains to be seen if the Jets can produce in back to back games, Crowder is worth a flier to plug holes this week.
